The Beacon Church was formed in September 2003 when the congregations
of three churches in Dover joined together. The Methodist
churches at London Road and Tower Hamlets and St Columba United
Reformed Church have united, and the first services took place
on Sunday, 7 September 2003.
We are currently planning a major restoration and renovation
of our church, with the addition of some more rooms, to create
a new worship centre.
These are exciting times for The Beacon, and we hope you
will come and join with us as we move forward into the future.
The last Methodist service was held at London Road on 24 August
2003, and the last services were held at St Columba and Tower
Hamlets on 31 August. These were occasions of mixed emotions
- sadness at the end of an era, but excitement at what is
to come.
Our first service together as The Beacon Church was a service
of Holy Communion, led by the Rev. John Lines, who was then
our Minister.
In the evening, we used the musical setting of Holy Communion,
Breaking Bread, for a service which was also attended by members
of the other Methodist Churches in the Dover and Deal Circuit.
